New Bridge Project

Taking Newcastle to new heights

The New Bridge Project seeks to completely transform an important piece of Newcastle city centre.  A new mixed-use building will replace the former hotel building and car park and a new public space will extend the public realm of New Bridge Street West.

Better pedestrian links and a new gateway to the historic Market Street will all contribute to a significant improvement in the local streetscape and a continuation of public realm works linked to the new HMRC development, Blackett Street and Northumberland Street improvements.

The design proposes a new high rise residential building that will create an important new landmark for the eastern fringe of Newcastle’s city centre. A new hotel will compliment the residential development and will act as a catalyst for new restaurants to activate a new public realm and landscape.

Led by Gainford Group, which owns and operates The Vermont Hotel, The County Hotel and a number of bars and restaurants including Avieka and Livello, the New Bridge Project represents a strategic investment in Newcastle’s world-renowned leisure and hospitality offer.
