Metro Riverside

A sustainable urban community

Metro Riverside is a landmark urban regeneration project centred on the Metrocentre, just 6km from Newcastle and Gateshead. It will transform nearly 100 acres of underused land along the River Tyne into a sustainable urban community.

Building on the Metrocentre’s role as a regional economic powerhouse – supporting 11,000 jobs and contributing £900m annually – the scheme will deliver over 4,500 homes for 11,000 residents and 645,000 sq. ft. of leisure and commercial space, creating 5,000 new jobs.

The development will offer green spaces, walking and cycling routes, and strong transport links via an existing train station and public transport hub. With direct access to the Metrocentre, the River Tyne, and major road networks, Metro Riverside sets a new standard for modern urban living.

Gateshead Council and Homes England are working in partnership to facilitate the delivery of plots for development from 2029.
