Centre for Health and Social Equity

A centre for improving community health

The Centre for Health and Social Equity (CHASE) at Northumbria University is an internationally recognised flagship centre, dedicated to promoting health and social equity across the UK and globally.

Building upon Northumbria University’s growing reputation for world-class applied teaching and research, the £100m Centre for Health and Social Equity (CHASE) project aims to promote regional, national, and international health and social equity.  CHASE is projected to deliver a Net Present Social Value of over £250m over 20 years.

Northumbria University is developing a new state-of-the-art development on its Newcastle City Centre campus. It will use this building to house Faculty of Health and Life Science academics in expanded and enhanced, state-of-the art facilities.  The new facility will enable the University to provide more innovative research, teaching, health and care workforce development and services offering to create improved social, economic and health outcomes for marginalised communities. Through the expanded teaching and simulation facilities the University will be able to play an even greater role in supporting a pipeline of talent to meet future NHS workforce needs.

Building on a decade of exponential growth in research capacity and quality, and capitalising on our social mobility mission, CHASE will enable Northumbria, as a key regional anchor institution, to become an instrument of greater equity as an employing, procuring, teaching and researching institution.

CHASE will be the largest transformational project of Northumbria University’s current strategy (2024-2030), housing academics collaborating on interdisciplinary research and experiential teaching to deliver breakthrough solutions for real world challenges.
